Salt Dough Easter Eggs!

Salt Dough Easter Eggs!

Yum

This week for Mini Chef Mondays we have another fun Easter recipe for you! This is a recipe and craft activity all in one, and a great way to do some Easter decorating together with your kids.  We created salt dough Easter eggs, which are easy to make and you can customize them to match your Easter decor.

Salt Dough Easter Eggs:

You will need:
  • 1 cup flour, plus extra for cutting board
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Easter egg shaped cookie cutter

Pre-heat the oven to 250F/120C. Add all ingredients to a mixing bowl.

Mix everything together and pause for a little dance.

Place mixed dough onto a floured cutting board. Use a lot of flour, as it is very sticky! Roll the dough out in a thin, even layer.

Use the cookie cutter to cut the Easter egg shapes.  Place on a baking sheet and punch a hole in each egg for the string to go in later.  We used a straw to poke the holes, you could also use a wooden skewer or similar!

Bake the salt dough eggs for 2 hours at 250 degrees. Check for done-ness and add a few extra minutes as needed. They should be hard and not sticky.

Allow the eggs to fully cool.  Then, go nuts painting your eggs however you want!  I tried to paint designs, while Carter preferred the mix color swirl.

We used our eggs to decorate for Easter by turned our sticks decoration into an Easter egg tree! Theres so many possibilities for how you could decorate with these. How would you use them?

Happy Easter!
